Aston University is located in the heart of Birmingham, UK – the second largest city in the UK. You have the option to live on campus accommodation, so that you are only minutes away from your place of study or the city centre of Birmingham. You can walk from Aston’s safe green campus to the city centre in 10 minutes. Birmingham is one of the most multicultural cities in the UK, with one of the youngest populations in Europe. It includes a range of shopping, restaurants and culture. Birmingham’s main train station has easy transport connections to cities such as London and Manchester, as well as Birmingham’s international airport offering more than 300 direct flights including to Oslo.

Aston University is ranked in the World Top 50 for international outlook (Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019), with an international community of students from over 130 countries. This includes 10 students on average per year from Norway. Aston offers a range of support for international students and has over 90% International Student Satisfaction (National Student Survey, 2019). We have a “Languages for all” programme allowing students to choose between 7 languages to study in their first year at Undergraduate level free of charge. The dedicated Careers and Placements team can advise you on part-time work opportunities and work placements during your course.

Practical experience is a key feature of Aston courses. Aston University is famous for being a pioneer of integrated work placements during university degrees. At undergraduate level, this includes the opportunity to do an integrated placement year when you can gain work experience in the UK or abroad. You can also study in one of Aston’s partner universities in countries such as the USA, Australia, Germany and Norway as well as many more countries. 

Work placements are also available at postgraduate level, especially in Aston Business School where you have the opportunity to do an extended work placement of up to 12 months, including the opportunity to study abroad. By gaining work experience or studying abroad during your course, you will increase your employability and demonstrate valuable international experience.
