Founded by Scandinavian immigrants to the U.S. in 1860, Augustana University (AU)is home to 2,100+ students from more than 35 countries (including Norway) and nearly 30 US states. The campus is located in the heart of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, a welcoming city of approximately 250,000. Sioux Falls is South Dakota’s largest city and home to major hospitals, Fortune 500 companies, creative start-ups, and vibrant arts and sports industries. In fact, Sioux Falls was recently recognized – for the third year in a row – as the top city in the United States for young professionals because of its low cost of living and low unemployment rate.
Because of the University’s strong partnerships with local employers, AU students have premier access to many practical placement opportunities in Sioux Falls, such as internships, research, and post-graduate employment. In fact, AU was recently ranked the #2 best college in the United States for post-graduate employment. AU was also one of only four universities in the US to earn the coveted Noel Levitz Retention Excellence Award in 2018, an award that recognizes the many ways the campus community supports students.
Augustana University offers more than 100 academic programs, including business administration, marketing, management, finance, communications, English, political science, a variety of science majors and pre-professional programs, as well as a master’s program in genetic counseling. 2018 graduates had a job placement rate of 98%, and 91% of graduates who pursued graduate education were admitted to the program of their choosing. AU is a proud member of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC), one of the best conferences in all of NCAA Division II athletics. AU student-athletes are equally as successful on the field as they are in the classroom. Since 2011, Augustana has 4 Division II national championships in 4 different sports (women’s cross country in 2011, men’s basketball in 2016, baseball in 2018, and softball in 2019).
Lastly, Augustana University is affordable. AU offers generous scholarships to Norwegian students. In fact, the full cost of tuition, double room, meal plan, and student fees can be covered by the combination of Augustana scholarships and loan and grant funding from Lånekassen. Recognizing the differences in educational systems between the U.S. and Norway, Augustana generally grants second-year standing to Norwegian high school graduates, saving one year of time and expense.
Because of AU’s emphasis on undergraduate education, the liberal arts, exceptional student support, and experiential learning, AU is ranked the #4 “Best Value” school and #4 “Best Regional College” in the Midwest.
